Why Utah, of course!! Utah is known for having the greatest snow on earth, its large amounts, fluffiness and the fact that you don’t have to take a heli to find great conditions. But where is this snow that we hear of? Utahns got excited when such an early storm hit dropping more than a foot on October 6th , and little storms throughout the month of October and November. Giving Ski resorts the chance to make an extremely early opening. Now there is no snow, with only between 23-27 inches at all the resorts the slopes on the mountain are icy and partially melted and no skier or boarder wants to go up and ride on that kind of terrain.
The skiers and Snowboarders of the state and those visiting want that deep powder, great back country lines and intense park runs that define snow sports. But the fact is that until later in the season you can’t expect such conditions, we are lucky to have the resorts open so early to start the season off with a little; but that is better than nothing. So relax, go get your ride of choice waxed and maybe sharpened because the snow is coming, it is barley December and this season has a lot to offer and a long way to go. Hold on Utah skiers; “with time the mountains can heal themselves” (Travis Rice) we just need to let them.

Say goodbye to warm, sunny fall days and say hello to winter.  Part of the attraction of living in Utah is the abundance of snow and snow related activities.  You don't have to travel far to enjoy all that Utah has to offer.  Residents and visitors alike can choose from five amazing ski resorts within an hours drive of Salt Lake City.  While most people choose to downhill ski or snowboard, cross country skiing is growing in popularity.

Cross country skiing consists of boots and skis made especially for cross country skiing.  Two popular cross country trails open to the public are Soldier Hollow in Midway that was used during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and the Park City Nordic Center located on Main Street in Park City.   There are also many golf courses located around the state that offer groomed cross country trails.  Lessons and daily ski rentals are also available at Soldier Hollow and the Nordic Center.

If you love to be out in the snow and want a good workout, maybe it's time to give cross country skiing a try.  It might just be the perfect winter activity you've been looking for.  For more information go to soldierhollow.com or visitparkcity.com.
