Go Support Our Ice Hawks!Gena Markman
Books/Hockey Editor gena.markman@yahoo.com A close game Wednesday (December 14) night against Copper Hills left the fans on their feet and our ice hawks looking more determined than ever! The cheering, chanting, and Alta school song echoed through the County Ice Center the entire duration of the game and left me feeling like a proud hawk at the end. Though we didn’t win, there wasn’t a single dull moment! If the actual sport isn’t entertaining enough for you, the over-excited parents sure will be… Our Hockey team is one to be proud of, so be sure to clear your schedule for future games (see full Varsity and JV game schedules below)! Posted 12/14/11 | Ice Hockey Fun Facts!* The first puck was square, not round.
* The name hockey comes from the French word “hoquet”, which is a shepherd’s crook. * Originally, games were played with 9 players on a side. * A puck is 3 inches in diameter, and 1 inch thick. * A puck sometimes moves at speeds of more than 100 MPH. * There are 9 face off spots, each one a foot in diameter. * In professional hockey, a stick cannot be longer than 55 inches from heel to top. * Goaltender’s skates have longer, flat blades for better stability. * Hockey became an Olympic event in 1920. * In 1924, the Boston Bruins became the first professional hockey team among the previously amateur teams of the NHL. http://www.sportfacts.net/ice-hockey-fun-facts

Alta Wins Game Four: 4-9
Gena Markman
Books/Hockey Editor gena.markman@yahoo.com The crowds cheered, applauded and screamed in an aggressive Game four as their high school hockey teams launched the puck into the net time and time again. Though there were several small confrontations during the game sending several players from both teams to the penalty box, the competitive air no doubt helped lead our hawks to their second victory of the season! With their skillful skating and precise movements, our ice hawks keep me at ease and nothing but excited for the rest of the season to unravel. The game was kept lively and entertaining from beginning to end. Ice hockey is definitely something to smile about in the winter ahead of us; so, grab some friends, and support our Hawks! The games are impressive and exciting enough that win or lose, they will not disappoint! Posted 11/30/11 |
