As everyone's favorite October holiday "Halloween" creeps its way closer towards us every passing day, a lot of us teenagers like to prepare ourselves for its arrival by getting together to watch some delightfully scary horror films. We're all familiar with horror icons such as Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and the creepy Japanese girl from The Grudge who sounds like a broken motor, but as a film-geek, I can safely tell you that those sorts of films only scratch the surface of what horror movies have to offer.

Thus, I present to you fine folks:

"Nick's Top 3 Awesome Horror Flicks You Haven't Seen"

3) "Night of the Living Dead" (1968 version)

Oh zombies, where would horror be without you?  Many of you have undoubtedly heard about this black-and-white low budget classic, but how many of you have actually SEEN it?  Believe it or not folks, but there is a reason this film is considered to be the best zombie film of all time.  Based around a group of strangers huddled in a farmhouse, all trying to survive a sudden onslaught of walking corpses, this film simply reeks with intense zombie action.

2) "Evil Dead 2"

Don't be fooled by that number on the end, this movie stands on its own as one of the funniest and goriest films in horror history, even going so far as to spawn its own off-Broadway musical!  Bruce Campbell stars as Ash Williams, a guy who's just trying to have a relaxing weekend with his girlfriend in a cabin in the forest.  But when they find a mysterious tape that awakes an unknown evil, its time to kick some serious demon buttox.  The movie is worth seeing for the comedic moments alone.  What other movie have you seen where a guy has a brutal plate-smashing fight with his own demon-possessed hand?

1) "Sharktopus"

This was by far one of the most unintentionally hilarious horror films I've ever seen, and I loved every minute of it.  The premise itself is reason enough to watch it with friends, but the "Jaws"-like plot is the icing on the cake.  In case you couldn't figure it out from the title, "Sharktopus" is about a half-shark, half-octopus creature that goes on an eating rampage at a nearby Hawaiian resort after escaping from the facility in which it was created.  If that alone doesn't sell you on this movie, then you need to seriously reassess your entertainment standards.
